Ordinary cardinals have red feathers due to the metabolic process that happens when they eat carotenoid-rich yellow and orange foods. This yellow cardinal? Straight up mutant. He was born with a genetic mutation that prevents his body from creating red feathers. Either that or he was blasted with gamma rays in the laboratory when he was trying to make himself immortal, in which case, he can probably also fly the speed of light.
